A system of record is not a survey directory

A directory that feeds surveys can be useful. It is not the HRIS I file on this guide.

Key takeaways

  • The HRIS list is the system of record the vendor page describes.
  • Payroll is in the quote only when the page, or the seller, says so.
  • FeedbackPulse is not on the HRIS list.
  • HiBob, BambooHR, and Rippling are, because their pages describe that record.

I used to split this category into a survey directory and a payroll system, and I filed a survey product under the first heading. I do not do that anymore. A directory that exists so surveys and reviews have current people data is not HRIS software on this site.

What I no longer file here

  • HiBob
  • BambooHR
  • Rippling

FeedbackPulse describes profiles, a manager, status, and a CSV import so surveys and reviews can read them. That page does not describe payroll, benefits administration, or a core HR system of record. I leave it off the HRIS guide. The names on the guide are HiBob, BambooHR, and Rippling.

What I count as the record

HiBob’s homepage leads with people, payroll, and finance, and it lists a core HR system of record plus UK and US payroll. BambooHR leads with people, payroll, and benefits, and its FAQ calls payroll an add-on. Rippling’s HRIS page says employee data lives in one place. I do not have a public per-seat price from HiBob or BambooHR that I am willing to print, so the guide does not invent one. Remote’s employer of record page does print a starting rate, and that product is on a different guide.

The mistake I watch for

The mistake is buying a payroll migration because a survey tool’s directory looked tidy, or calling that directory an HRIS because the fields were neat. I write the job at the top of the notes. Which buying job is this quote for is the checklist I use when a seller bundles them.

The other tools still have to know the manager

If reviews and surveys live in another product, the HRIS has to update the manager there too. A stale manager means the review and the survey go to the wrong person. I ask for that sync in the demo even when the quote is only the employee record.
